A DEAD DAD AND A LOST MOM WITH A LIVING HOPE AND A GENEROUS SPIRIT.

The Lord relates to us everyday in a very unexpected way. This week Jesus came to me in a way I had never expected.

Aaron is a 15 year old enthusiastic teenager. He is from Liberia and has been in this country for the last 2 years. I knew Aaron but considered him one of the few lucky boys with both “Mom” and “Dad”. His “Mom” is one of the faithful friends of mine because she continues to call me even when I was not able to visit her and help her family. She called to wish me a happy new year.
Aaron’s story is very interesting. His “Mom” is not really his Mom he lives with his aunt and her husband. If you see Aaron his smile, his humility, and his willingness to help is amazing. You can never imagine that he is a boy who has to pass through a lot of tragedy at this age. His dad is lost in the war back home and he does not know where his Mom is.
He has a brother and sister in two other African countries. But Aaron continues to smile and be my friend. “Mr. Worku,” He said to me the other day, “I really want to help you and I do not need any payment.” Don’t you think God loves me so much? I think I do. He came to me again to show me his love through a boy who has a dead dad and a lost mom. This is a grace I have never seen in that group. Yes as Jesus said, “My father is alive and works and I too am working” God is touching all of us in a way that is not of this world. Aaron’s face and humility beams joy in my life. If God can make a 15 year old with a dead dad and a lost mom happy he surely can make all of us happy regardless of our, “not haves.” Thank you Jesus for you are rich of people who praise you and happy in you because of who you are!
Aaron is one of the boys we are trying to help with our Mentoring program. If you have any part time job once a week like Saturdays, or if you have one or two days after school jobs let me know. That will help Aaron a lot for he wants to send money to two of his siblings in Africa. That will make him more happy.
Thanks for reading my story.

Dear brother!

I keep hearing about this new kid. I'll have to meet him.

The thankfulness people have, even in the midst of not having, encourages me. The other day we watched a video about kids who had to have half their brains removed. They were happy do you know! They were laughing and loviing people. I felt deptressed for them but they were happy. I stand in awe.

Yes Sis, I am always amazed with the God who gives smiles in the midst of tear, water in the midst of wilderness, order in the midst of chaos, and gets praise in the midst of pain!
I love my God he is amazing!

Amen Worku and Laura. This post made me very thankful to be a live and well. God give me the courage to be thankful even in harder times.

Yes Heidi Sis,
If we all can see things as God sees we can be more thankful than we are. I think one of the reasons that make me thank and worship God more is the fact that he gets praise from people who are, in our standards, hurting and have all the right to complain.
Jesus is amazing!

I love these lines. It certainly puts my "not haves" in perspective. Thank you, Worku.
